Crikey! I think I'm gonna have nightmares tonight.
The box jelly fish (irukandji jellyfish) lives further north, in Queensland's warmer waters. They have jelly fish, sea snakes, sharks and salt water crocodiles swimming near the beach. In Sydney we only have sharks and the blue-ringed octopus, both lethal. Our bluebottle jelly fish can only kill small children, but then again, when adults run screaming out of the water, our funnel web spiders (endemic in metropolitan Sydney) will kill them with little effort. Still, some people in Australia do live to a ripe old age.
Is that one of the beaches where those awful little jelly fish sting people? I saw a special on them on Discovery. OW! Do the nets keep them out, too? You wouldn't catch me on the wrong side of the shark net.
Time flies. I went to this year's Australia Day picnic in the same place, but I forgot my camera. Alzheimers must be setting in.
Jeff, actually it was one year and nineteen days. Time (really) flies when you're having fun!!! Cheers :)
It seems like only a year ago we were discussing this picture.
But can that net stop the stealth Croatian attack sub? I think not.
Shark net extend 2 feet above sea level. I hear of Australian flying shark, but I never believe this before.
Looks great to me! I could do without the name though, probable just what they call it to keep all the tourist out?? : )
Of course they are on the wrong side of the net.... They are down under and they drive on the wrong side of the road.... But hey they have great beaches. I'm ready to go down under kimberly. 143 143
Wow, ask for a picture of Shark Bay, and ye shall receive a picture of Shark Bay. That is a serious looking shark net. I think I would stay on the inside of the net. What is up with the thrill seekers outside the net? These may be candidates for the Darwin Awards.
Hey, some of these people look to be on the wrong side of the netting. Some one should tell them there are sharks out there. It looks like a great deal of fun though. I keep saying "lets go down under, Rick!" 143
Julian, top of the morning to you matey. Isn't this the beach where Kevin Costner filmed "Swims with Sharks? Was this part of your ( the British are coming) Australian Day Celebration? Beautiful beach.
