Gets 5 stars from me every time :) Thanks Gene. Jeff, I truly enjoy reading your daily history lessons while having my coffee. That, coupled with the photographs always brighten my morning!

Jeff - Great history lesson - thanks! And, Gene - you still get 5 stars every time this photo comes up. I always envision you following Julian's example by "stalking" the tourists while hiding behind the dunes...good job!

You're right Captain Bosko.. I think the slide show is in reverse mode. Good boy Jeff, Don Tristan De Luna was the guy and the year was 1559. It has been devastated several times hence. You'd think we'd get the message but there is a certain magnitism about this place.

Perhaps a little history will help as we enjoy this picture again. Did you know that Pensacola was the earliest European settlement on the area that is now the mainland USA? This was settled by the Spanish 48 years before the Jamestown, Virginia colony. The Pensacola settlement was devastated by a hurricane about one month after it was settled. In historical terms, this is called "bad timing". The settlement was abandoned after two years and was not re-established for over 130 years. Score: Mother Nature 1, Humans 0.

Webmaster drank too many coronas, or maybe my computer stuck in tachyon time loop. Somebody please flick picture to next one. PS Still like it Gene, nothing pensacolapersonal.
